Dr. Victor Mak's Bio:

  Specializing in treating diseases of the reproductive and urinary tract, Dr. Victor Mak is a urologist practicing in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Currently serving as Chief of Urology at Mackenzie Health’s Department of Surgery, Dr. Mak has been on the urology staff at Mackenzie Health for over fourteen years.  In addition to his Chief of Urology title, Dr. Mak also serves as Chair of the LASER committee at Mackenzie Health and is the Uro-oncologic Chair of the Multi-disciplinary Cancer Conference Disease Site at Mackenzie Health.  In addition to his work at Mackenzie Health, Dr. Mak acts as a Peer Assessor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, as well as a Consultant Urologist for Mon Sheong Long Term Care Facility in Richmond Hill.   Dr. Mak also currently works as a Consultant Male Infertility Specialist for fertility centres throughout the Greater Toronto Area.    Dr. Mak received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Toronto in 1991, which is where he also completed his undergraduate and Masters of Science degree in Molecular Genetics in 1987 and 1997 respectively.  Following the earning of his medical degree, Dr. Mak completed an internship, as well as a four-year residency at the University of Toronto’s Department of Surgery Urology Division. In 1998, Dr. Mak had the honor of completing a year-long fellowship on erectile dysfunction and male infertility at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto, making him one of the few urologists in Canada with formal post-graduate training in the subspecialty field of male reproduction, andrology/sexual function and microsurgery of the genito-urinary tract.   Dr. Mak has been certified and licensed by a number of medical organizations, including the Federation Licensing Examination (FLEX), The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Urology. Dr. Mak also serves as the President of the Ontario Chinese Christian Medical Fellowship and holds membership as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Urological Association, the Canadian Urological Association and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.    Throughout his career, Dr. Mak has placed a high importance on making contributions to medical journals and publications.  With this priority in mind, over the years, Dr. Mak has contributed urology-related articles in a number of major international clinical and basic science journals.  Some recent articles that he has co-written include What ́s your diagnosis? Red plaque on groin, published in The Canadian Journal of Diagnosis (2010); Canadian Urological Association guideline: the workup of azoospermic males, publishedin theCanadian Urological Association Journal (2010);and Technical modification of microsurgical varicocelectomy can reduce operating time, published in Urology (2006).            Besides his research work and medical writing, Dr. Mak remains a frequent speaker on specialized urology topics, most recently making a presentation on prostate cancer at Mackenzie Health at the Multi-disciplinary Conference Rounds in September of 2014.  Other recent presentations include Update on metastatic hormone sensitive prostate cancer, Urgent matters in overactive bladder and Benign prostatic hyperplasia, all presented by the doctor in the past few years at Mackenzie Health.
